Reflection from one of my readings:
I believe that it is very important to really learn about a place’s history, and you can’t really say that you know about a place if you don’t know what has happened there, what is happening there, and what should happen there. It helps you learn about what happened with the settlers or ancestors who were there before us and possibly how you are related to that. I think that it is cool how the theory behind place based education is that we don’t just learn about places, we learn about them first hand. I find that place based education has already positively impacted my year in Eco so far! Being out and about is a lot better than reading out of a text book.
2 poems from my journal about racism and biking:
Racism
Hateful, Cruel
Discriminating, Bashing, Abusing
Stereotypes, Ignorance, Prejudice, Bias
Hurtful, Breaking, Judging
Offensive, Disrespectful
Selfish
To school every day on my bike,
The up-hills I really don’t like.
I huff and I puff,
Like I’d had enough!
I’ll die on the way out to Pike!
A question I answered during a place based education project:
Question: Write/analyze how this man made pond affects surrounding areas, animals, people, environment, and eco system.
Answer: This pond helps animals and birds because it gives them a great source of water, and a place to hang out so they don’t roam into the housing areas. That also benefits the people so the animals don’t venture into the houses. It’s good for the people because the pond is a nice area to have a picnic, or spend time with family. The pond is good for surrounding areas because it keeps the water all in one location so it doesn’t flood the houses. The pond helps the environment because the water goes into the clouds, then waters the grass, trees, and plants. I think that this pond it a great element in this neighborhood!
