This very special event called Voices For Change was created to spread word on the social issues surrounding us. I am very grateful to have been a part of this event, and I am proud to say that I was there. First of all, it was held in a magnificent theatre, called the Roxy. It has exquisite architecture and very beautiful murals and pictures covering the walls. It is definitely the most beautiful theatre I have seen in my life. There were 6 acts from my class; two spoken words, two dances and two songs. I thought that they were really awesome! One act out of the night really stuck out to me. I am a major Beatles fan, mainly passed down onto me by my family, but a girl from one school sang a song called, "Imagine," by the Beatles. She changed part of it to fit her cultural language, Ukrainian, and I thought that it really added to it. Her performance gave me chills, and I am immediately brought back into the moment when I think of that song. Also, I really enjoyed the performances from my class, which were on being yourself, dog fighting, equality, not being afraid, standing up, and fire/destruction. After every performance was finished, we got the chance to sing a song called "Heroes," by the Steadies. It was a real privilege because Earl Pereira himself sang the song with us, and the song hasn't even been released yet!! Here is my favorite part of the song,:
So tell me what's the point of living
If you're always taking and never giving
This is a song you should be singing
There's so much joy to be bringing!
We can all be heroes
Make a change where we go
We can all be heroes, heroes, oh we oh we oh
We don't need no super powers
If we're helping by the hours
Heroes we can be
It's up to you and it's up to me.
So tell me what's the point of living
If you're always taking and never giving
This is a song you should be singing
There's so much joy to be bringing!
We can all be heroes
Make a change where we go
We can all be heroes, heroes, oh we oh we oh
We don't need no super powers
If we're helping by the hours
Heroes we can be
It's up to you and it's up to me.
