Yukon – Day 8 – May 31, 2015
Today was a lot of fun! It was another long bus day, but we also got outside! We went to Miles Canyon, Liard Hot Springs, and a yummy food place! Here is how our day went in more detailJ
We woke up in Takhini early in the morning and headed for the road! It was a very long bus day, so when we stopped, I was sure happy! I needed to really catch up on some reflecting, so I got to it after breakfast. We drove and drove and drove for about 7 hours from Whitehorse/Takhini TO Miles Canyon! I immediately got out of the bus and stretched my legs. We then decided to explore this cool bridge thing, looked at some plaques and see marvelous sights while Bill drove to Whitehorse for some bus maintenance! I loved looking at the beautiful canyon! The walls looked like lava lamps (acc. To the sign, they were formed by lava – not erosion because of the weird rock it’s made from called ‘basalt’. The water was very similar to the water at Muncho; milky-teal colored! It was very pretty <3. We walked across a very rickety bridge. It was a little creepy because there was nothing below us but water! The bridge was standing up by a couple of thick wires attached to the ground on either side. We even saw a little beaver swimming around! It was a bit rainy and cool, but to be honest, that is my favorite type of weather! We crossed the bridge after taking my only picture that day. I was so pumped because it really was gorgeous there! We walked right on the edge of the canyon and it was cool to see how high up we were! All of a sudden, a red fox came up very close to us! It was beautiful with its blazing colors, and a bushy tail! Foxes are my favorite animals ever so that was a real treat. It came probably 5 meters away from us! It was awesome!
We walked back, and we hiked across the bridge for a mini-solo! I was excited because I still had more journaling to do! I got some finished, and we all headed back to the bus where Bill was waitingJ.
Leaving Miles Canyon, we headed to gas stations. This took about 30 minutes I think… we were allowed to buy some food! There was fruit there, so I bought an appleJ, I also bought some milk because we didn’t have any fruits, veggies, or milk most of the trip – that was a real awesome treat! Adia and I bought some Kraft Dinner for supper, but we ended up not being able to have a cooked meal.
Eventually we arrived at the Liard Hot Springs! We walked through a cool path in the woods to get to the actual springs. It smelled like moldy eggsL. It was a lot different from Takhini – when you walked in, the ground was dirt and rocks! There were vines and trees surrounding the water, which was awesome! On one side of the springs, the water was literally boiling, and there was a cool rock figure, and on the other end, there was a freezing pathway! I love the Liard Hot Springs more than the Takhini ones because it was 100% real nature! I thought it was cool to think about where the water came from and how it got there! Also why it was soo hot! We left after 2 hours and headed for the bus!
We slept on the bus that night, but I brought my sleeping bag on, so I had a much better sleepJ.
This day has been very fun and adventurous. It’s cool to see what you actually learn when you aren’t sitting in a desk – like geology, wacky forms of nature, animal behaviors, and much more! It has been an amazing trip that I won’t ever forget.
